The trustee program provides qualified inmates with opportunities to learn responsibility and job skills while assisting with daily operations. Maintaining this program helps encourage rehabilitation, accountability, and a smoother transition back into the community.
• Senior Care Program
Many senior citizens need assistance with tasks they are physically unable to handle on their own, especially those living alone or on fixed incomes. This program would allow carefully selected trustee inmates, under supervision, to assist seniors with projects such as removing fallen trees, minor yard cleanup, and other basic outdoor needs while giving inmates an opportunity to give back to the community through service and accountability.
• Church Services and Worship Area at the Jail / Support the Youth Court
The goal is to create a safe and dedicated space within the jail where inmates are encouraged to attend worship services, Bible studies, and faith-based programs together. Providing opportunities for spiritual guidance and positive mentorship can help encourage personal growth, accountability, and rehabilitation during incarceration. Continued support of youth court programs will also help guide young people toward better choices and provide intervention before mistakes become lifelong patterns.
• Body Cameras for All Deputies, Leadership, and Jail Personnel / Cameras in Blind Spots
Transparency and accountability are essential to building public trust. Expanding body camera use and installing cameras in blind spots throughout the facility will help protect both the public and law enforcement personnel while ensuring accurate documentation of interactions.
• Promotions from Within / Years of Service
Employees who dedicate years of service to the department should have opportunities for advancement and leadership. Promoting from within helps reward hard work, improve morale, and preserve valuable experience within the Sheriff’s Office.
• Deputies at School Sporting Events — Local and Traveling
Providing law enforcement presence at school sporting events helps ensure the safety of students, staff, and families both at home and away games. It also strengthens positive relationships between deputies and the community’s youth.
• Reserve Officers on a Volunteer Basis
A reserve deputy program allows qualified volunteers to assist the department after completing required training and certification courses. This program can increase manpower during events and emergencies while giving community members an opportunity to serve.
• Sheriff’s Office Attorney on Staff
Having a dedicated attorney who works directly with the Sheriff’s Office ensures deputies and leadership have immediate legal guidance specific to law enforcement operations. This role would be separate from the county attorney to provide focused support for the department’s daily needs.
• Instructor / Internal Affairs Division for Monitoring Public Interactions
An internal instructor and internal affairs presence will help ensure professionalism, accountability, and consistent training standards across the department. This position would also work closely with the staff attorney to review public interactions and strengthen public confidence in the Sheriff’s Office.
